My mom works as a volunteer at a Free Clinic in rural Virginia. She told me that 800 of her 1,000 patients (very low income folks) have abandoned the Free Clinic for this new program.

I know nothing more, except I took a picture of the flyer at my regular Doctor's office.

I'm doing something wrong.

Over my entire 35-year career I paid thousands of dollars per year for my health care and now that I'm retired I'm still paying thousands of dollars per year and I'm yet to receive "QUALITY HEALTH CARE"!

In the 10 years since I retired, the medical industry has caused me many more problems than they have solved.

Medicaid for all is a good thing. Everyone should be able to see a doctor and get treatment for any sickness or injury without having to worry about if they can afford it. Instead of giving tax cuts to the top 1% this country should finally do something about making sure everyone has healthcare. Tuition free public universities should be immediately after. I might be pro 2nd amendment, but I think that's about the only thing that republicans get right.

Pretty sure most of the free stuff you mentioned involves a lot of socialism. Which is gross. And bad for our country. Make people work for a living, stop giving folks handouts and quit babying people. Should be called snowflake policy, all that free education you mentiones. Tuition free public universities. LOL. Sure, lets build more playgrounds for liberal ideas to be spread around like wildfire and where kids once again won't have to bear responsibility for their actions in school, because it's free.

I agree. Before we were taxed to death most "social services" came from churches and civic organizations. The aid went straight to those in need, no 2 cents on every dollar. Tax me less I will have more money to help those I see fit for helping.

I guess that other basic services should not be tax funded either. No need for police, just pay for armed security. No need for firefighters, just install sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers in your house. No need for public schools, just pay to send your children to private school. If we didn't waste so much money on corporate welfare and defense spending, we could easily afford to grant basic healthcare to every U.S. citizen. The 2 countries that always rate highest on the happiness and quality of life chart are Norway and Denmark. Both have universal healthcare and tuition free public university. The U.S. has never even made it into the top 10 on list of quality of life countries to live in.

Norway and Denmark citizens don't have rights. No guns. Bunch of potheads and pacifists. How is defense spending not important? If you don't like it here, you can leave. Hell I'll even help you move if you don't love living in the USA.

For quite a while police and firemen were private companies were used and/or citizens got together to hire. Same with schools. The vast majority of the US still uses volunteer firemen.

If you think Denmark and Norway are such great places move there. I've spent time in both, have you?

Thanks for the offer Verylargeboots! I may take you up on that some day. I believe that the best way to love ones country is to speak up for the changes you think that need to be made, not to blindly accept it as perfect in every way. And to Mark S. Are you suggesting that we go back to privatizing Police, Fire, and all Schools?!?!? I have not ever been to Norway or Denmark but I hope to visit someday, and I would actually prefer to live here. (not a big fan of snow and skiing). I do think that the USA is a great country and I'm happy to be an American, but I believe that there is definitely room for improvement.

So you think your socialist additions are just what the country needs?

Toughtom12, have you ever visited Denmark or Norway? The average guy there would give up all of the big gov't social programs to have the freedoms we have. You mirror that current modern progressive sentiment that people around the world look down on the US, which you will find untrue if you travel overseas (With the exception of a few Islamic/communist nations) Your comments remind me of our last presidents view of the United States.

**another thought since progressives like to bring up the "no fire departments without tax money." For the first 175 years of this country fire departments were 95% volunteer. If we weren't working 12-16 hours a day to pay taxes most people would volunteer at the local fire department, hospital, Sheriff Reserve/posse, churches/synagogue etc.

Sure my garage math might be off some, BUT THINK ABOUT IT!

I think Toughtom12 has replaced Dusty except that Toughtom12 doesn't go off on wild, crazy rants and actually presents an argument from his point of view.
