So, in this crazy panic buying spree spurred on by the Covid 19 pandemic, we've all seen the effects on the market online and in gun stores across our towns, counties, state and the nation. Most notably being online retailers such as Cheaper than Dirt (ha! Yeah right!)

I must say I did expect a little bit of the same inside the gun community's private sales sector, as we all value the merits of a market economy and earning extra money via supply and demand. However, I did not expect to see just how ridiculously widespread the price gouging has become even on our little gun trader. It's very disheartening to see just how much our fellow gun owners, a group that needs to look out for one another and help each other in the face of all the attacks we sustain from the political climate in this country these days has fallen into the "every man for himself" mentality. I can understand a small mark up, but 200 to even 300% markup on normally cheap plinking ammo?

Come on guys, we can do better than this for our fellow gun owners. If you need ammo, don't panic and pay outrageous prices for it. If you're selling, don't take advantage of people who are blinded by fear to the point they lose common sense. We have to maintain calm and our decency in times like this.

I may catch flack for an opinion such as this, but it needs to be said. Stay safe and stay sane out there everyone!

You weren't here in 2013, after Sandy Hook. It hasn't gotten bad yet.

The key is... don't buy the overpriced stuff in a panic.

Hold fast, the supply will recover... things will even out, it just takes time.

So, I was at the store the other day to get eggs for the family. They had no eggs. None. There was no expectation that they would be getting more eggs again anytime soon.

At this juncture I can buy eggs for an excessive price from somebody that owns a chicken or I can go without eggs.

Or I can buy a chicken if I can find one for sale and learn about chickens and how they make eggs. I will also need to build a chicken house and buy scratch ETC.

Moral of the story, be prepared if you want something and think its availability may be compromised in a time of panic. Or be prepared to pay excessive prices.

BTW... I know people with chickens. I plan to trade ammunition for eggs. It will all work out in the end... It always does.

The only thing different about now is the stupidity of more fellow men... during a moment media induced panic.

Want to see price gouging? Go check out Cheaper Than Dirt, they are at it again. 1000 rounds .223 FMJ $1898.00 or 100 rounds 9mm FMJ $175.00 I would never buy anything from them.

The question is this. How do you prevent people (profit reselling) what you just sold them for a reasonable price? I would be pissed if I sold you 1000 rounds of 9mm for $250, and then one day later you sell it for $500. I think that if people are buying in bulk during a crisis, it's not gouging but "supply and demand". It's only gouging if someone has a gun with no ammunition, and you charge them an astronomical fee just to load up their mags. As long as you have 50 rounds per gun, you don't "need" to buy anymore. Most of the people buying up guns and ammo at the moment are Anti Gun people anyways. I'm guessing 99% of the members on here are good to go on having enough ammo to protect their family and their neighbors.....But probably not enough to continue regular range visits.

I'm prepared at all times, I've got thousands of rounds of various calibers stashed away. I'm going out tomorrow to my land in the county north of mine where I shoot. I'll probably burn through about 300 rounds of 7.62x39, 150 of 9mm and 200 of 5.56: what totals several hundred bucks in this inflated market.

About the chickens, I don't really have trouble with that either lol. My family has a farm so I'm good on alot of stuff.

It's kinda funny how so many people who were happy to laugh and say they love how Northam is planning to take our semi autos and standard capacity 30 round mags are now lined up out the door of the local big box stores and gun shops scrambling to get their hands on a gun and some ammo.

Who here NEEDS ammo?
I mean NEEDS it...will die if you dont get it?

If you dont NEED it for survival and you are willing to buy it at an inflated price then that's on you. A fool and his money will soon depart.
Wait until l this mess is over and ammo will be plentiful again at normal prices...maybe even cheaper. Then stock up.

You heard the man, all is fair in love and war...or this case pandemics. Gouge away. Especially if they need it. Strike while the iron is hot and take advantage of those who are in greatest need.

Things a person needs
air, yep
Water, yep
Food, yep
Shelter, mostly yep

Ammo, nope. Don't have enough, don't shoot. If you are suddenly terrified of roving gangs of baddies taking your tp stash, have a good plan. When they come to squeeze your charmin, shoot them and take their ammo. If they don't have guns, leave the bodies as a sign to the next roaming gang of sanitizer junkies.

Agree with Brian.

Here's my offer. If you are a member here and have "no, none, nada" ammo for your self defense, PM me and if I have the caliber you need I will "lend" you a few rounds for your/your family's protection. You can return it when the panic is over.

Thats a great offer Bob.
You cover Nova members with this offer
I'll do the same for the Petersburg area.
If a member here really really NEEDS a few rounds because you have NO ammo, I'll lend you some.

Local stores gouge, too.

After New Town, the owner of Southern Gun World doubled the price of Bushmasters and raised the price on 30 round mags to $30 or $40 each. She took most of the more interesting hi-cap capable rifles to her lake house.

S&W Shields has just come out and the store got a bunch from Smith for LE sales. Karen had to offer them for about $280 to LE but sold plenty to civilians at $600 a pop.

Seems like buyers get complacent when times are good and prices are low, then cry and moan when the worm turns.

Best thing to do is just wait it out and then buy before you regret waiting.

Best thing to do is buy what you need under normal circumstances when its plentiful and cheap.
I think most everyone has what they need, they are just panicking for some reason and feel they need more
