So, I've not yet sold a gun from private sales yet but, I have a question about a bill of sale form that I found online. Do I need a Notary present to sign the bill of sale in a private sale in Virginia.

Side note: I'm originally from West Virginia so, I want to make sure I'm doing things the right way.

You don't need to do a Bill of Sale at all. They offer zero legal protection.

So, even with a Bill of Sale, I can be responsible for for them using the gun in a crime?

If you knowingly sell to a prohibited person you can get into trouble with or without a BOS.

That's understandable. So, usually, a Concealed Carry Permit will cover that. I just need to check for that.

Is there anything else I could use for a check of sorts?

You are under no obligation to check for CHP. If you are super paranoid you can always sell to a dealer - with the run on guns they may pay more than you think.

I have never used one or been asked to.

A BOS just gives you the name of the person your selling it to (get it from their ID) and the price you sold it for, for your own records and theirs.

I ask for a VA ID, and write down their name and mine, the price they paid and we both sign it and I give them a copy, and keep one.

But its not required by law nor is showing a CCW.
