I went to the range today and picked up some of the brass on the ground. When I got home, while sorting the brass, I found this in the pile of 10mm cases.

I'm not sure how it was able to chamber it and fire but it did. You can see it was eccentric to the bore and fire-formed to the 10mm chamber it was fired in. I didn't notice any blood when I was there so presumably nobody was hurt. That is one of the 10mm cases I picked up in the 3rd pic for reference.

Pay attention to what you are loading in your mags when similar calibers are being shot at the same time!

9mm is close enough to use in a 10. There’s the proof.

Similar thing happened to me...not a mistake between calibers but I had bunch of bags of loose ammo I dumped into my can. I had just bought them so didn't really think about it. While loading at the range, I was grabbing a hand full to load up in my mag and grabbed a bad round that didn't feel right in my hand...it almost looked warped and the back of the casing was bad. Must have been a defective round but good thing I caught it. Now when I get loose bulk, I go through it like I'm going through my kids Halloween candy laugh

If you're used to the same ammo all the time and snatch an odd round, you can usually feel the size difference. At least I can.
