Gifting a firearm to son/daughter

Are immediate family members like (mothers,father, etc…) able to gift pistols or rifles to their sons or daughters if said person is not prohibited from owning a firearm and over the age of 18 but under 21 from what I’ve read it seems it’s legal but I’m not sure.

My understanding is that you still MUST do the background check and transfer, regardless. There may be exception for inheritance.
The BG check / transfer can usually be accomplished at a Gun Show at the VA State Police table for a MINIMUM FEE. There are some FFLs that will provide the service for about $15.
You can get a definitive answer by calling VA State Police.
