10.5” build

10.5” build - 03/17/19 10:17 AM

I have a question that I’m hoping a fellow member can shed some light on. I’ve been building a couple of ARs for the last few years now. I’ve been collecting used parts when possible, and attempting to acquire the hardest to find parts first. Both builds are almost done, and while I’m not currently a stamp collector, I’ve been building these to suppress them in the (hopefully) near future. That brings me to the pickle that I’m in... I went with a Noveske CQB barrel (10.5”) and the almost impossible to find, DD Lite 10 II rail. There was/is absolutely no info on this combo anywhere that I’ve been able to find, so I didn’t know that the rail will most likely keep me from suppressing. I’m planning on putting a Lantac Dragon ASR on, but even with a few shims, there is very little chance that it will work.
Do any of you know of either a suppressor that is thin enough, or a mount that with keep the suppressor far enough away from the rail?
If I knew someone who owns an ASR, I would just go ahead and buy the mount to see if buy chance it works... worst case scenario, the Dragon ASR goes on a 16” lol

UPDATE...

It looks like I’ll be using the 10.5” for another build with an NSR 9, so now I just have to find a sub $450 12.5” Crusader to get cut down to 11.5” facepalm ...since Noveske only makes a stainless 11.5”.

So I’ve been looking at info on suppressing 10.5” 5.56 ARs. One guy claims that he blew out a suppressor at that length... another guy claims that suppressors will wear out much faster, and goes on to say that 12.5” seems to be the sweet spot?
I’m pretty set on keeping the 10.5”, but not at the cost of a can. I would assume that the SiCo suppressors are good to go at 10.5”?

I have a SiCo Omega 300 that I use on my 10.5” pistol and it performs just fine however I don’t torture test it. I believe the issue most people see with suppressing shorter barrels is from increased heat (since the powder is still burning when it hits the suppressor). So cans that are made of less durable materials (like plain steel) would deform faster. I know SiCo is pitching their new chimera 300 can as full-auto rated & safe for any barrel length but in both cases the issue is heat build up. I’m 99% sure the omega I have is also full auto rated so I you should be fine as long as you’re not doing endless mag dumps out of your sbr you won’t break it. Plus side if you do somehow break it SiCo’s customer service is top notch and they’ll fix your can.

Thanks for the info! My Lantac E-BCGs for both builds just arrived (ordered in January from Midway), so I’m hoping to get the suppressor show on the road soon. I decided that I’ll just keep my eyes open for a DD Lite Rail 9 II to swap out with my 10 II when I’m ready to suppress the 10.5” build.

Try to get an AAC M4-2000. They are built like a tank and AAC rates them down to 10.5" barrels.

I have a couple of 10.5 builds and a 11.5 build. I have a SiCo Saker 7.62 and Hybrid. No issues on clearance of the rail with a Centurion C4 cutout.

Thanks for the info, guys!

I FINALLY had a chance to shoot the 10.5” a couple of days ago. It’s as smooth as can be, and I love everything in regards to the build, but every time I pulled the trigger, it was like someone was smacking me in the face with a memory foam pillow. To be honest, it was a little more than I was expecting, especially considering that my 13.7” feels softer and smoother shooting than my 16” ARs.

I found a nice little info chart on the Silencershop website.
It looks like I should pull the trigger on a Saker 762 ASR. I’m not sure how the smaller Saker 556 is better rated across the board, but for what I have, I should be fine with the 762.

I have Saker 762 and 556K both with old style MAAD mounts for Trifecta muzzle devices. I like them better than my AAC 762-SDN. At least with Trifecta the can doesn't need to sit deep, so it can be closer to the rail on my Mk18 copy. My understanding ASR mounts are similar.

Well that’s a relief to hear! That what I THOUGHT, but I haven’t been able to find the info that I’ve needed to have any piece of mind lol.

I love building ARs so anything I can help with makes me happy. )))

Here are a couple of pics what it looks like on my AR.

This is DD 10.3 in barrel with Troy Bravo 9 rail. There's still at least 1/2 inch between the rail and the suppressor mounting shoulders on the flash hider. This is MAAD mount on Trifecta FH. I think at least on SilencerCo ASR it the same.

I was finally able to take a couple of pictures yesterday...

Thanks SOOOO much for posting those!! It actually looks like I might be good to go even with the little bit of clearance that I do have. You can only see the one, thick shim on mine, but I have three or four precision shims in front of that. So even with that extra length added, that's what I'm working with lol.

Based on the couple of pictures that I posted, does it look like I have enough space?

I have a 10.5" on both my 5.56 pistol and .40 S&W AR pistol. I use the Kaw Valley Linear Comp on both as well as my 16" AR-308. It works great at projecting the sound forward away from the shooters ear.
