Ak47 "sniper" or Designated Marksman rifle build - 06/01/13 06:06 PM

I have a Norinco Nhm 91 rifle and I was wondering if it is worth trying to make a sniper rifle out of it? And if so what do I need to do to it?

Thanks

An NHM-91 would be more accurate at an extended range than the average AK. No problem. What are you looking to do with it? All I really see it needing are some 10 or 20rnd mags and a sight rail riveted to the receiver.

Here is an Egyptian MAADI DMR.

I have a norinco type ii im debating doing this with.

I had a wasr10 with utg rail that utilizes the receiver scope/accessory mount on the left side topped with nikon glass and could comfortably hit steel plates at 1-200 yds and was the only one at a local duck club to be able to hit a stump at 550 yds (with a little kentucky windage lol). Other weapons in the mix were long and short iron sighted and glassed nagants, a few ar15s, and a few other iron sighted aks.

Problem I found was getting a consistent grouping out at 150+ with a wasr using a range of ammo. It just didnt exist.

Im hoping the longer heavier barrel and milled receiver of the norinco will play some roll in increasing the accuracy and consistency of groupings.

What top rail is that?
How does it affect takedown and is poa changed with removing and reinstalling during field strip?
What prompted you to do away with the bipod and put a vert foregrip on it?
Digging the furniture.
What are the shooting results?

It's a dogleg mount. The first gen ones, I have one just sitting on my desk, were a bit of a pain when it came to take down. You have to remove the first screw in the stock. The newer gens use complicated latches that have made life easier at the cost of a much, much higher cost.

You might want to check out TWS. Yes, they might be a little pricey, but their receiver covers are WELL worth it.

Apex has the cheapest price that I've seen:
