I haven't shot em side by side yet, but I will say the Springer is 90% as tight as my Les Baer, but FWIW the Baer is the tightest fitting 1911 I have ever handled. I will report back after a side by side comparison.

these are the 2 i have out of the safe right now. i agree with bax about the les being the tightest fitted 1911 i have owned. i have colts, SA, taurus, kimbers, and a ria but the les is the only one i have actually had to use the barrel wrench to get the bushing out. i carry the sa loaded in the pic with me daily. and the les was a recent purchase so i still have it out fondling it. the last gun was a ria that was my toolbox gun at work

Re: 1911 Picture Thread - 11/22/11 11:28 PM
here are a couple. first, my old colt. its a shooter! 1913 frame, wwII slide. drop in beavertail, raised sights (not pictured), updated internals with a PERFECT 3lb trigger. now has a drop in storm lake threaded barrel:
second, the unicorn. springfield professional. 2001 production with the nowlin barrel, 1.5" at 25yds and the initial fbi spec called for samples to still hold less than 2" at 2yds after 20,000 rounds. tight, still need to use a bushing wrench to disassemble. slide rides like it is on ball bearings. all hand fit, hand checkered, handsome!

I have never owned a 1911 but I promised myself I would get a 1911 for the 100th anniversay last year. However I had no idea I would be building one. I started this back in November and do work on it as time permits. This is blending in the beavertail.

There she is (and I'm not really even a 1911 guy) - my left-handed 1911 (bought off of this site) and my left-handed Weatherby Mark V Deluxe and a whopping big Virginia buckle to keep it all relevant.

Re: 1911 Picture Thread - 02/01/12 08:57 PM
Oops, it's a Randall. As far as I can tell, back in the 80's Randall made the first stainless steel 1911s and also the first lefties (of this model there are about 225 per the Blue Book of Gun Values). They eventually sold their equipment and left over inventory to Safari Arms who made a few lefties called "the Renegade" - I think Safari Arms got bought up by Olympic Arms (?) who sold the last of the left hand stock. I've since seen 1 Caspian made in left-hand on gunbroker and wish I had had the funds at the time to aquire it. I've heard that a company in Canada was making a lefty, but all my searches have come up empty. This Randall has the box, manual, and a second set of target grips. The seller bought it as an investment and never shot it. The original owner shot it, but didn't really clean it. I took it completely down and cleaned and polished it to the point that my finger tips are tender and missing a few layers of skin! If there's anything I love more than shooting my guns, it's getting to clean them up when they're really dirty. Incidentally all the internals are flipped too, even the rifling is counter-clockwise!

Indeed it is an authentic 1911 with a born on date between Oct. 24, 1918 to April 10, 1919. I rescued it about 7 years ago from the bottom of a old tool box at a yard sale in Yorktown. Picked it up for $75 along with the toolbox and assorted old hand tools. It was void of any finish sporting only a light coat of rust along with the original two tone magazine loaded with 1940's dated ammo.
I had it bead blasted, removed the sights replacing them with taller later dated sights. Parkerized it, installed a NOS WWII barrel and link and have been carrying it since.
I own 6 1911's and this is by fay my favorite even though it still bites me every time I take it to the range.

Added another one to my "armory"
Philippine made M1911 GI clone
I already installed a new trigger and grips. No other plans other than an extended thumb safety.

Kimber stainless ultra carry. I picked this up used four years ago with three mags for $600. Never did like it really.
Nothing but good to say about my PT1911. I grabbed this when they were new for $400, and other than the right side of the ambi safety snapping off, not a single complaint. Replaced it with a Wilson Combat ambi.

ok ima throw a turd in the punch bowl .... this is how the gun came to me it was a competition gun , bomar sight rail , stippled frame , lightened trigger , some special guide rod and bushing , fat trigger shoe , serial number puts this gun at 1918 and yes it is a colt

I'm odd then cause I think that's wery sexy.
Its very likely the pistol is setup to shoot wadcutters and with very light loads. Don't shoot factory loads thru it or you could crack the frame. Has new seen it?

Are you sure that the frame is a 1918 date? That frame is an A1 which would put it a few years after 1918.

Sorry for the delay in responding. The trigger is called a "Tristar." It's made by Cabot Guns. To my knowledge, they are no longer sold to the public - they determined it was a distinctive enough feature to be a sortof trademark. If you want one, you have to buy one of their guns.

Top: My wife's uncles Colt 1991A1 service 1911 from WWII used in the Pacific Theatre. This is a gun that has ended lives, it feels very heavy in the hands. We had it reassembled as when it was located in the family house it was disassembled and missing parts.
Middle: My Kimber Pro-Carry II Stainless CT - Bought for myself about ten years ago, a great shooter.
Bottom: My Kimber Ultra-Carry II - Bought for my by my wife for my 45th birthday and a few days after our 45th POTUS took office.
