Best ranges? - 07/14/19 10:26 PM

Hi All, I'm new to NoVa, living in Vienna/Tyson's. I'm wondering what the good ranges are around here, both indoor and outdoor.

I think your best bet is Silver Eagle up in Ashburn. The NRA range is a bit closer but much more crowded. Welcome to the area!

Welcome, I'm just a few miles West of you on Rt. 7.

The closest indoor range is NRA. They have a 50yd range but they close for events and may not be available when you want to shoot. Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly is next closest, in-door 25yd. Silver Eagle has a variety of in-door ranges/yardages. I drive out to Elite Shooting Sport to sight in my rifle (100yd in-door).

You did not mention what you wanted to shoot, if you want to shoot competitions there are out-door ranges: Quantico, Peacemaker (WV), Thurmont (MD), AAFG (MD)

My Votes for Silver Eagle and Elite shooting. Both are my favorite ranges to go to.

I live in Tysons area.

NRA range is my default range. Gets crowded on weekends but during the weekdays is empty between approx. 10 am - noon and then again between 1 pm - 3 pm. There’s no time limit when it’s empty, otherwise 1 hr limit. It also hosts IDPA matches twice per month and USPSA. Operating hours are a bit inconvenient, especially when they are closed Tuesdays.

For long range rifle I use Elite Shooting. It adds extra 10 minutes of driving time but they have 100 yard range. You need to check their calendar, 100 yard range is often closed during weekday mornings and other times. They have more ranges than NRA but gets crowded as well.

There’s Sharpshooters in Lorton, Silver Eagle in Ashburn and what used to be Blue Ridge Arsenal in Dulles. But in my opinion NRA and ESS are much better. All ranges except NRA have rentals.

If you need ranges beyond 100 yards then Peacemaker National Training Center is about 1-1.5 hours away.

Quantico if you can qualify for membership. You can shoot 1000yd most sundays and with more range officers volunteering, more ranges will be open each weekend
