Looking for Mauser info - 08/23/21 06:02 PM

I've got an old Mauser but don't know much about it, wondering if I post some pics if somebody can educate me about it.

Post pics! Cover any language on the barrel and any symbols on the receiver, barrel and stock.

Milto got it in one. It has a commercial stock and it started out life as a model 1898. Have the chamber checked it may have been converted from 7X57 to 7.62 (308). The SJG is Schweitzerische Jndustrielle Gesellschaftthe Germans, and German Speaking Swiss used J for I until the 30's. Barrel was made in Switzerland by what is not know as SIG.

Thanks for the info. Bought it as 7x57 but will verify. Had intended to use as a varmint gun on the farm but don't need it anymore. What's the going price assuming it is 7x57?

Gunbroker has sold prices for Chilean Mausers between about $250-$525. There are listings in that range that also have had no bids, so it seems to depend on specifics of individual rifles. It is far from any area of gun that I know anything more about otherwise so take that ballpark info with a grain or two of salt.

Your sporterized gun would be at the low end of those numbers. Does not appear to be numbers matching. Gets a boost if barrel is an original 308 (7.62X51).
