AK 47 Build Party?

I was reading a article online about group builds, basically they purchased ak 47 parts kit, and all met up at a shop/garage which had the proper tools and knowledge and spent the next 8 hours building a AK 47!

I was thinking this is a great idea, especially with the insane prices of AK's these days.

Im just throwing the idea out there to see if we could possibly get something like this together.

There were 2 experts in AK Building who organized it and had people sign waivers and im sure collected a fee for using their tools and what not.

I found your post while looking for an AR build party. Sounds like an interesting proposition, but I haven't found any around VA. They appear to be most popular in CA.

The AR Build aren't so popular because its more of a "assembling" parts than actual building i.e. riveting and drill presses. I would love to get one together.

AR build parties are a bit more than "assembly" if you buy an 80% or 30% lower receiver there is quite a bit of machining that is needed before the FCG and buffer spring tube can be installed. Same goes with 80% uppers, there is some pretty intricate machining involved to get an 80% upper receiver ready for a barrel, gas tube and BCG.

All that being said I would love to get in on building either platform, I have coworkers that have drill presses or access to them, but I would like to do an AR on a mill (I'd like to build a sub MOA rifle that is tough as nails for less than $700). An AK would probably be fine on a drill press though.

Anything ever come of this? I would love to build my own AK without having to fly to LA.

Yea, absolutely need to get this Polish Tantal built. Been sitting on this parts kit and receiver and rivets for like 5-6 years now. Not having any of the tools for riveting/pressing the barrel back in, is the only thing holding me back, but idk if I want to dump $400 in tools which I am not sure if I would be able to resell. I'd absolutely love to get a build party started anywhere in Virginia and I can supply a lot of beer if anyone has the tools necessary to get this baby built.

Maybe someone who has done it can list all of the tools and parts needed and people can step up with what they can bring?

Also, might help to get a 'parts' or 'kit' list together so that people know what they need.

Picked up a 20 ton press the other day, if anyone knows where I can get some steel I can make a 555 die. Google 555th to see what I'm talking about.

I can get you some steel, but the AK parts kits are the killer.

I chased some 6 months ago and still have a bump on my head from the brick wall I hit. At least the FAIRLY PRICED ones.

I didn't read the whole thread but I'll get together with you and build an ak47. I'm in dyke va. I'm sure I can get my neighbor and a few others to join us. I've got a very large garage but no tools yet. I was planning on buying a press soon. Let me know if your still interested.

I have a matching Romanian MD-63 with original barrel I'd like to rivet. It will be up to a couple months before the custom receiver is finished. Put me in the hat for a party or if you do this privately on the side, I'd pay a premium for quality work. Please PM me.

I will also report back what I hear locally. I will be asking around to find a local AK smith.

Or, if someone want to go halves, thirds, or quarters on the tools, we can throw our own party and resell the tools and divy up the funds later.
