Sunday Hunting in VA

If you haven't heard the house bill has made it through and will go before a Full House vote. Call your delegates and let them know you support Sunday Hunting in VA. This isn't just about hunting it is about property owner rights. If you own property you should be allowed to decide if someone hunts on it 7 days a week or not.

Also look up your County Board of Supervisors and give them a call as well. There is a push to get county SOB to say no Sunday Hunting.

You are exactly right about this issue. The language to have counties "opt in" to this law has been removed, so hopefully the county BOS will not come into play. People need to call their Senators now and voice support for SB154 AND HB1237 (currently in Senate Ag committee).

It is not over yet. SB154 is in the House Ag committee and HB1237 is in the Senate Ag committee. These reps need to still hear from everyone.

My senator is Phil Puckett and he submitted the Senate bill. I have also called my delegate and asked him to support it, which I believe he already has.
Another important step is to call the governor and ask him to sign it.

Its about time they did this... the concept of separation of church and state must of finally clicked recently. I find it strange that we cant discharge a firearm within 200yds of a church on sundays now, would have been rude to begin with but on saturday there isnt something in the books about not shooting 200 yards from a synagog. Not wanting something like that to be in place but if there wasnt something in place for the Jewish religion all these years on saturday hunting then there shouldnt be a single restriction in place for sunday hunting for the Christians. Just saying. Baby steps right? Either way, happy to hear and cant wait to clean up come next deer season!

I was at the committee hearing for the bill in the House when this question was asked to Bob Duncan the Director of the VADGIF. He flat out stated that the season length would not change based on adding a handfull of days to the calendar. Virginia controls the deer herd by number of tags and number of doe days not by the length of season(except maybe the areas with an urban archery season but those areas want more deer dead anyways). the only seasons set by number of days are waterfowl seasons and the number of days is set by the feds not dgif, dgif decides how they are split up. for instance i believe the 4 day early wood duck season instead of th,fri,sat,mon will likely be fri,sat,sun,mon or th,fri,sat,sun next year same length just no arbitrary break in the middle. That moron Farris(moron is based on his statement about believing in the 12 comandments at the hearing) tried his best to get Bob to say the seasons would be shorter and Bob swatted his attempts down each time.

there is nothing wrong with dog hunting if done correctly and legally. dumping your dogs to run through others property that didnt give you permission to do so is not legal, pretending to look for your dogs to tresspass is not legal, etc etc.

I heard through the frame vine dogs will not be allowed on sundays, and this all goes in effect the first day of deer season this coming season. Not sure if this is credible info or not.

No dogs on Sundays and it starts July 1st when the license year kicks over.

No dogs for deer or bear. Bird and bunny hunters are OK.

Not necessarily your own land, but only private land.
