Legal use of Rifle/Shotgun Combination Firearms

Figured I would ask here since I cant seem to find clarification anywhere else.

I have a Savage model 24V with a .222 over 20ga. My primary use for this firearm is for varmints and turkeys but I’m looking to possibly take it deer hunting since the only firearm I have that I feel comfortable taking deer with is a hawkins muzzleloader.

I wouldnt use the .222 for deer because 1 I would rather use something larger... and 2 its illegal as we all know.

Would I be in the wrong for using the 20 ga to take deer in the eyes of the law because I would also have the .222 in my possession while taking it?

Not sure on that , you may want to call the game commission . You would think as long as no 222 ammo is in your possession you would be good but i'd check.
