Rod was a good guy. Knowledgeable and pretty fair on his trades. Made many deals with him over the years. Usually had some of the best prices at the shows and most always had the new toys before many other dealers did. He will be missed at the shows for sure. Hope someone in his family continues to run the business. RIP Rod.

I'm shocked and saddened to learn of Rod's untimely passing. I had a nice chat with him either that Sunday or possibly Saturday at the RIR gun show. He's done me a lot of solid deals over the years, I'll definitely miss him. RIP brother.

He was a damn good Father, Individual and Businessman.

The good ones seem to go too early.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Cant believe Im reading this. A shame to have lost a great person whom I have made many deals with since the days of the Hugo's shows. I always looked for dark sun's booth at the shows. Even got my oldest son his first revolver from Rod. He will certainly be missed.

Re: ROD HODGE (FROM DARKSUN) - 11/13/15 02:32 AM

Dear VA Gun Trader Members: My oldest brother Rod Hodge, younger brother Chris Hodge and son Steven Thomas made up Dark Sun Surplus. Rod's sudden death robbed us of a son, father, husband, brother, uncle, friend, leader, mentor, protector, decision-maker, problem-solver, motivator and teacher. He was all about family and was honest to a fault. His motto was Do the right thing no matter who you p*ss off. And if you google "Dark Sun Surplus" you'll find out that he p*ssed people off a lot. He never used the internet so I would tell him what people were saying and he'd say "Good...the ATF will read it and know I'm obeying every law!" Even after 4 months it still has not sunken in and random moments of disbelief hit without warning. Anyway, the point of my post is that I wanted to say THANK YOU to the members of VA Gun Trader for sharing their memories of Rod. I enjoyed reading all the comments. Kym Hodge

Hey Kym,

Rod was a great guy. I knew him for well over 20 years. He was a class act and will be missed. I am very sorry for your loss.

Re: ROD HODGE (FROM DARKSUN) - 11/15/15 08:02 AM

Thank you G-Shooter...It's heart-warming and healing to hear that so many customers valued their friendship with Rod just as much as they respected his integrity as an honest and serious-minded (and sometimes grumpy!) business owner. If you or anyone else have stories or would like to express things about Rod (good, bad, indifferent - it does not matter!); or if anyone happens upon something about Rod or Dark Sun, please send me an email to the address in my profile. I am making a scrap book of Rod's life (which I know he would hate and make fun of me for doing, haha!) and I plan to print out as much as I can find. Take care! Kym
