Gun etiquette at the rally and carry in general - 01/13/20 06:24 PM
I went to the NRA/VCDL even today. Great show of unity from gun owners - very glad I was part of it. Unfortunately, Dems pushed through with some really bad gun laws, despite strong public opposition. SB16 (AWB) got derailed for a time being but no doubt will be back later in some form.
Anyway, while waiting in line to get in, there were a few people who open carried their handguns. One gentleman in particular was carrying a political sign which was appropriate for the gathering, but I think he kind of ruined the mood for fellow gun owners in line with the way he carried it - it was a shoulder holster with muzzle pointing backwards. Every time he turned, he would muzzle the entire line.
While I have no doubts that this gentleman can positively exercise control of his firearms and operate it in the safe manner, last time I checked Cooper's rules still apply.
I know that shoulder holsters have their place in firearm carry, I just don't think carrying a handgun in such manner is the best option during public gatherings.
There's also a growing number of people who plan to carry their long guns at the rally (some in full kit for some reason). VCDL recommends against it. Please read VCDL FAQ VCDL LOBBY DAY 2020 FAQ .
After today, I really feel VA gun owners are getting organized and finally pushing back hard, I'd hate to see this great effort being destroyed by someone with poor gun safety attitude.
What do you guys think? I know we should exercise our 2A any chance we get but shouldn't we at least do it in a safe manner?
