Lots of people hate James or have strong opinions about him. When it comes to constitutional/freedom issues he is always right.

A scary loudmouth.

Guys like that usually run when the shooting starts.

Their used to be a video that was claimed by some to show him doing just that after his PSD convoy was ambushed.

The only ones who will fight are the tired angry old men, guys that have never been shot at, and hardcore military gun lovers, when the bullets are tearing your house and family apart you will run or try to

And what sort of steadfast empirical data is this based on?

The video is still on youtube. James runs to a ditch about 20 feet away from the ambush and returns fire while his co-workers stay at the disabled vehicles and return fire. It's hard to say what should have been done in that particular situation, but James did render aid do his downed comrades and appeared to do the smart thing right off the bat. When you are being ambushed you need to get off the X before counter attack. I still cringe at his Extra Alpha tough guy talk though. He talked like this after sandy hook and had his CCW revoked for a few months back in 2013.

He did provide cover fire, as well as potentially draw fire away from his wounded team members. What you don't see is him leaving the car in neutral, with the e-brake on. He was unable to get out of the kill zone.
He did lose his CCW for a period of time but since he is a sworn leo it didn't matter. They did not persue his right to carry as an officer.
He is definetly a love him or hate him type guy, just like most "tactical instructors." I do believe he is a man of his word.
