Quantico?

Quantico? - 01/24/14 11:54 AM

Does anyone here shoot at Quantico? I just moved back into the NOVA area for school after leaving active duty and would like to meet some local people. All of my friends before I left for the military have turned into pot heads and I won't be taking them to the range.

Welcome back, and thank you for serving the nation and people. I haven't shot at Quantico yet, but I'm eligible for membership if they have a free slot. I'd like to go, and live in Manassas.

I've been busy with school and having the reserves take up what little weekend time I do have free. I'm hoping to get out there in the next couple weeks. I need to zero both of my rifles since I just put new rings on them.

There are several of us who shoot there regularly. Laserjock, a5b, Domonicm, Racin Junckie, Cash is King, and Roverich. Check the range calender and see when Range 1 is open and let me know you want to go.

what do you guys typically shoot out there?

I have spring break coming up towards the end of march so hopefully I'll be able to swing a weekend and get out there.

Depends on which range is open. But shoot skeet, rifles & pistols.

Not a member, but they also open range 5/HRP range once a month for a good USPSA pistol match. Open to the public/non-QPS members

Most up the regular group that shoots there have tables at the Dale City Gun show this weekend.

Well it's looking like I won't be able to make it, just started a new job this week and they want me to come in and train.

I'm a big fan of the Quantico Range. Very well run and generally the members have above average skill sets and operate very safely. If one of the volunteer RO's is reading this, thank you.

Lets see, its never open when you want to shoot, They change the schedules at the drop of a hat, and its a pathetic good old boy system as far as officers go. Should have been to the annual meeting this last time. What a goat rope.

1000 yard range is open what, once a month? The only redeeming quality is that there is nothing else around.

Do they let non-retired combat veterans join? (non retired as in only 6 years with an honorable discharge)

Yeah but i believe you will have to pay the same as a civilian would but im not sure. If you go on the website and email them im sure you would get a definite answer

Re: Quantico? - 06/06/14 09:47 AM

You have to be a DOD FED within 60 Miles, military or retired military for full membership IIRC.

Re: Quantico? - 06/09/14 04:28 PM

There is no such thing as a "full membership". There are regular members (DoD affiliated) and associate members (no DoD affiliation).

Base rules state that 2/3 of members are required to be regular members.

Associate members have all of the privileges of a regular member (voting, holding a position on the board, etc).

The same old "fudds" that run for office are the same guys who open ranges (and don't get to shoot). We're there every weekend listening to the same old complainers about the ranges not being open when the aggrieved person has never opened a range, volunteered to assist during a match, or helped in any other way of supporting a completely volunteer organization.

I'd be happy to pass along valid information, sponsor or "guest" anyone wishing to come on board and shoot on some of the best ranges in the area.

Re: Quantico? - 04/22/16 09:19 PM

QSC needs RSOs. Don't want to help open ranges, go look for another 1000yd range...

Re: Quantico? - 04/26/16 11:54 AM

Last time I tried to be a RSO I couldn't. Since I'm still in the reserves you have to be an E-6 (I think) to be an RSO according to USMC Regs.
