25 yard .22 Rifle Shoot (every Friday & Saturday night)

The Acakeek Sportsman's Club in Stafford VA, has weekly, 25 yard .22lr rifle shoots.

6:30 pm Friday: Scoped rifles only
6:30 pm Saturday: Iron sights only

I've been attending these shoots for about 6 months now and it's a lot of fun. Very well organized, friendly people and just a nice place to shoot some rifles on a Friday night. We shoot rain or shine, all year long. If anyone would like more information or directions, feel free to PM me or give me a call.

Per the request of a few vagt members, I'm adding a bit more info regarding the .22 shoot....

-You do not have to be a member. Anyone can show up and participate.
- Men, women and kids do participate often.
- We shoot 8 rounds. 2 targets, 2 bullets per round.
- Bench rest with bench rest bags. There are extra bags there if you don't own one.
- 25 yds and the bullseye is about the diameter of a pencil eraser.
- $20 to shoot 4 rounds, $40 to shoot 8 rounds.
- $5 option before the match if you want to shoot a bonus, money round at the end.
- You must shoot 8 rounds to be eligible for the bonus round.
- If you win at least 1 of the 8 rounds, you're in the bonus round.
- Win more than 1 round, that's the total # of targets you will shoot at the bonus.
- They pay meat on even rounds, money in odd rounds. Bonus $ at the end.
- 10 or more shooters, you usually get your money back if you win a round.

Any other 22 shoots around? Closer to I-66 or I-81?

I've been trying to find more shoots as well and can't find anything nearby. I heard there's one every other Saturday near Luray VA but, can't find any info on it. If you find something post it and PM me some info as well. I will do the same. Thanks.

There is a range down in luray.. its on the American Rimfire Association clubs page.. but nothing shows in the schedule. I may call em up and see what they have.. I want to play, but 40 bucks for 8 shots.. screw that.. I'm not in it to win money or meat.. I'm in it to learn to shoot.

Thanks for the info. Now if only i could find some decently priced .22 ammo to practice..

Everyone is welcome to come hang out and/ or shoot, every Friday and Saturday night! Show up at 6pm. Matches start at 7pm.

We had a pretty good turnout last Friday. A couple more VAGT members showed up to shoot and did well. Hope to see some more show up.

Sorry for the late response. I was out of town last Friday so, I didn't go. I'm sure we will be shooting tomorrow. Hope to see you there.

Are these shoots still going on or is it certain times of the year? They sound interesting I haven't born to this kind of shoot since I was in my teens.

Still going but on hold till September when they start a new shoot using only over the counter ( sporter barrels ) .22's I think on Friday nights and shoot anything on a Saturday night?

I think they felt an arms race was developing leaving many people out so trying to get back a level that includes everyone.
They mentioned a over the counter gun with sporter barrels that are less then a dime in size on the end. Understand that the official rules have not come out yet so subject to change.
They do plan on having a time on Saturday night or Sunday AM where you can use whatever you want - bull barrels etc.
Again - nothing official yet.

I'm one of the arms race guys lol... 2000 22 before the new barrel....

I know they were doing a Halloween trail for the last few weeks so that should be over now.

At this point it is standing with a bag in a shooting station.

I just really dislike bench shooting. Takes a lot of the human element out of it

Shoot is back on starting this Friday night.
As expected it will be over the counter .22's with sporter barrels and not more then a 3x9 scope. They are trying to include everyone and level the playing field.
Sight in at 6:30 and start at 7:00.

I have to say I am having a hard time being competitive with my sporter barrel and their Federal auto match. I need more time with this new rifle to see if it is a shooter.
