Question regarding AP ammo - 05/15/18 08:21 PM

I can't seem to find any info on Va laws regarding armor piercing ammo. Federally, as I understand it, if it's bigger than .22 and meant for a handgun, it's illegal to sell or buy or posses.. so, theoretically, .22 or smaller is legal as far as handguns go? Considering it's legal to own (and sell and buy I'm presume) 5.7x28 ammo that can pierce armor, that falls into the .22 and under category. My question is regarding rifles. On some sites, gunbroker and armslist, people have ammo listed as M855A-1. I'm wondering if this and other purportedly armor piercing rifle rounds are legal to buy and or posses in Va?

The only regulations I'm aware of are at the Federal level and deal with importation, not possession by an individual.
