CCW physical card needed?

To buy more than 1 handgun in 30 days requires a VA concealed carry permit. Is the actual card required, or is the physical card not needed since its already on file with VA State Police(who the background check runs thru)?

I'd say it's good to carry it always, regardless if you're buying more than one hand gun or not.

I had to present it to the ffl for them to enter. I think they just check a box. They said another person who they did not enter the chp for was denied for purchasing more than 1 handgun.

Yes, you must present the physical card.
