SLIGHT RANT - Outrageous NFA transfer fees

SLIGHT RANT - Outrageous NFA transfer fees - 01/29/15 10:50 AM

.....sorry I just had to vent.

I have more than a few NFA items which were purchased through a SOT in SC a while back.

I currently have 4 suppressors which I need to have transfer ins done for... I've contacted a few SOTs in the area and.....$100 per transfer..????? When I inquire about the price, I'm told that it's for the paperwork and having to store the cans. I can MAYBE understand that the transfer is a bit more than a standard FFL transfer, but if I'm needing 4 and it's $100 per transaction?

I know that NFA is an expensive game, but it almost seems that dealers are exploiting that fact with charging such an amount. I've dealt with the paperwork....it's not all that much more than a standard transfer. As far as storing the cans....really.....charging that much for rent in a safe...?

Please someone feel free to knock me off of my soap box and tell me a good reason why all of these transfers are so expensive....and I mean some intelligent replies. I'm not new to the game but think that these prices are ridiculous....

Thanks for letting me rant a bit....

Hansohn Brothers hansohnbrothers.com - $35 per NFA item

Loudoun Guns - $100 per NFA item

SSG Tactical - $100 per NFA item

TW Firearms - $85 per NFA item

I look at this the same as when gunshops began charging $60 for 30 round AR magazines during the post Connecticut shooting panic. Absolute exploitation due to the limited number of SOT licensed dealers in the area. Pathetic.

Thumbs up to Hansohn Brothers.

So some shops charge a transfer fee on NFA items that you buy from them?

Have done business with Hansohn Brothers for years. Do not know why anyone would go anywhere else to get Class 3 or other firearms items with transfer fees of $35 and $25 respectively. Ray and Chris have always been honest and up front. These guys truly make the paperwork process painless and are willing to provide updates with a simple call. A++++
