S&W Forum says this was probably from 1920. It is an “I” frame, smaller than the “J “ frame like the Model 36 but still 5 shot. It was modified somewhere along the way to have the barrel shortened (to just past the “C” in Police) to make it the very definition of a pocket pistol. The front sight has been relocated and the work is excellent. The 38S&W (or 38 Colt New Police) may be a bit anemic by modern standards but very controllable in close and probably better than 32Long which is popular in this size.
Condition is remarkable for 100+years old. Pictures shows oil, not damage in barrel close-up. There is a streak of rust/discoloration on the sideplate but doesn’t show up in the picture. There are some tiny pits in the barrel but barrel and cylinder were professionally cleaned with super-fine abrasive. Smooth trigger which was standard until “target” trigger in the 30’s
Includes ~35 rds of RNL ammo and rug. $400. Trade interest is 20 ga shotgun +/- cash
