This Pre-WW2 30s German M1933 M33 SA Sturmabteilung Dagger & Scabbard is in good condition but each piece shows signs of age, handling and storage. The blade is well marked and denotes early production by Gebrüder Heller, Stahlwarenfabrik, of Marienthal bei Schweina in Thuringen. The "Alles Fur Deutschland" motto is still strong and portions of the original crossgraining are still present, however the blade has been sharpened and it slightly shorter than most standard examples found. Typically SA and SS daggers of this style have 22cm blades, the examples offered here has a 21cm blade. Of note, there are legitimate untouched daggers with 21cm blades and two hyperlinks with examples will be included at the end of this description. As with "commercially made" pieces made in the early 30s, there are countless "revisions" and variations that are encounterable and this difference in blade length could be just that. While the sharpened edge is clean and neat, signs of handling are distinctly present. The crossguard and pommel cap appear ot be made of Nickel-Silver, the crossguard is clearly Gua marked "Tr" denoting SA issue in Thuringen. Of particular interest, the crossguard is reversed, with the Gau stamped being visible on the wrong side. There are no signs of this dagger being taken apart recently and it appears this reversal was done a very long time ago. The wooden grip handle shows light, expected wear with several chips and a hairline crack near the crossguard. The enamel "SA" runic insignia has a mild blemish most likely caused in storage but still displays nicely. The Eagle insignia is securely attached and clean, showing crisp detail and only minimal age. The brown anodized scabbard is an early production example and is "period correct" for the blade. The lower ferrule has lost one original screw, has a small "split" near the screw hole and it's finial has been damaged. The blade fits snuggly in the scabbard and is securely held in place. This SA Dagger is an honest early production example and still displays well despite it's blemishes; it would be a fine addition to any German edged weapon collection. $900 OBO
