The "Stevens 44 1/2" refers to a line of single-shot, breech-loading rifles produced by J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, around the early 1900s.
These rifles, particularly the Model 44 1/2, are known for their high quality and precision, especially when compared to earlier Stevens models. The "1/2" model was a significant upgrade from the 44 and is considered a high-quality action for target shooting. The Model 44 1/2 was known for its strength and precision, suitable for smokeless powder and capable of producing very tight groupings. It was specifically designed to compete in the Schuetzen target rifle market.
This action has been inspected/cleaned by a gunsmith; it is tight and operates smooth. You'll notice the blued 1-1/6" barrel - its chambered in 32-40 Ballard/8.1x54R, also known as .32-40 Winchester. The beautiful Walnut stocks are what attracted me to this rifle first, they are gorgeous and I've had it on display in my gun room for years. Oh, there is an absolute "hair trigger" on this gun!
The Scope shown is not available
There is a weaver rail mounted on it currently that can go with it, there are holes for external adjustment scope mounts as well.
I am interested in trades for guns, high end knives or optics. I'll even take your P320!
Thanks!
