With some of the legislation coming with the incoming administration; I would like to formally start a group to establish a gun club that will acquire property or lease property to shoot. If anyone is interested, we can set up meeting at one of the local libraries. They have conference rooms that can be reserved. I would like to discuss this with people who are not only interested, but are willing to assist with time, resources (funds, ground clearing, etc). We could structure the club based upon potentially shares of ownership, which would make it semi-private and avoid the crazy incoming rules about only "registered" firearms at gun ranges. That is one of the crazy ones that I have heard.
Anyway, I have a few years before I retire and move on, but would like to enjoy my remaining time here.

So to expand upon my initial message; I am not looking for other members to completely fund the gun club. I have funds to buy a few acres of land and have my own private oasis of sorts; however, I know that pooling resources would allow for a larger acquisition and also provide for a "community" project that fills a hole here in NOVA. The lack of a decent outdoor range.
A group effort to clear the land, etc would help control overall costs. I am sure that there are members that would contribute by bringing equipment and expertise to the effort.
Organizing as a "Trust", "S-Corp" or "LLC" would prevent one person taking over or screwing the group at large. Also prevents one person from being completely responsible or on the hook for maintaining the club's status.
Is there no one else even interested in discussing it? If that is the case, I guess it was worth a try.

Patrick,
You have Quantico Shooting Club in your backyard. On federal land where state rules WOULD NOT APPLY.
It might be time for you to become a member... I'll sponsor you.

Patrick,
Skip here, count me in. I'd like to help
One question, is Isacc Walton League not a private property? I think it is and members there have a pistol and rifle range. Its not a open to the public range. I am member of chapter off 610 road and I'd be glad to sponsor you into this chapter.

Jay, Thank you. Quantico Shooting Club is definitely an option and maybe that ends up being what I do. I was thinking of something a bit more accessible to the community in general. Also, I enjoy shooting steel targets and am not really a long distance shooter. I still may take you up on the offer.
Skip, Thank you as well. Yes, Isaac Walton League is private. I have used them as a guest before. I picked up some literature at the last Chantilly show and my daughter and I thought about joining. We both like shooting steel target, which is not allowed, but in the end, it may not be a bridge too far to forgo that.
In general I end up having so many conversations with locals about the lack of convenient choices to shoot, that I would have assumed there would be a lot more interest.
My best option may be simply buying a bit of land and setting up a couple of lanes. Hey, in the end an attempt at a "group effort" was worth the shot.
Again, thank you both. The two of you have always been solid and open fellow reloaders/shooters.
