Swedish M96 made by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in 1905
The receiver, bolt, and buttplate match. The bolt is fully matching, with the same number on the bolt body, bolt handle, cocking piece, and safety. The trigger guard/floorplate, both barrel bands, and the rear sight have different numbers. All of those parts carry Swedish crown proofs, so this looks like a rifle that went through arsenal refurbishment.
The bore is bright, with sharp rifling the whole way down (see photo).
The bluing and the walnut stock are in excellent condition.
The M96 has a reputation as the most accurate military Mausers ever built. Many consider it the best military Mauser ever built. The reasons are the Swedish steel, Carl Gustaf’s close machining tolerances, the long 29-inch barrel, and the 6.5x55 cartridge, which pairs mild recoil with heavy-for-caliber bullets. With a bore this clean, this rifle is a good way to see for yourself whether these claims are accurate.
