Thanks he's at the taxi already!

I've gone an entire year and not killed a thing. It makes for a frustrating season. All the good looking deer like in this thread keep me going back. Matter of fact I'm heading out in 30mins.

i'm not having any luck with big boys this year, but i did get some meat for the freezer today. came in at dusky dark and i thought it was doe until i picked the head up off the ground, and it turned into a little spike. the deer was not impressive, but the shot turned out to be the best i've ever made. i pulled the heart out and the shot had actually blown a big chunk out of it. to prove how tough a deer can be, he actually ran about 40-50 yards before he crashed. that's the first time i've put a round straight through the heart like that.

now i need some biscuits... laugh

My cousin (same one that killed the buck a couple posts up) shot this buck monday and found it friday. Makes me sick how lucky he is.

Very nice deer BK, congrats. Beautiful.

We are seeing some great bucks this year. Keep letting the young bucks go and you will end up with big bucks. Let em go to grow boys.

Nice buck country. That's a thick main beam. The tarsal glands were wet and musty on mine. I'm not sure the ruts here yet though. Very close I suspect. They definitely aren't responding to any scents. They walked right by the ones I had out.

2 weeks ago the bucks around my house practically knocked my scent bombs off the treelimb. since friday, they don't even notice. i think we have had a short early rut. the tarsals on the one i got friday were dripping(he was a spike), and i killed a small 6 this evening and his tarsals were dripping. so i have no idea what's going on.

Yesterday I saw a four point bed down with a doe and saw a small 8 trailing another doe. I saw three other bucks cruising the woods.

This morning was a different story, I saw animals getting on a boat 2 at a time. I should have my head examined for not coming in sooner, I'm still chilled to the bone.

I shot a buck and a doe yesterday but forgot to take pics as the buck was only a 2 point. His right side antler was broke off. He stunk bad he was definetely in rut still and he was chasing 2 does. Its been a crazy rut this year. Went in Friday and nothing was moving not even birds or squirrels and go in Saturday and saw 9 deer running and chasing. Hope it lasts another week.

First drive of the morning I had a spike split me with a doe and a nice 8 point on the other other side. I was on the spike and when I realized it was a spike and wasnt going to shoot the doe and big buck come out on my right, when I swung over I didn't like the shot so he got to live to see another day. The clubs rule of killing no bucks under 12 inches is finally paying off nice. We ran 6 wall hangers and 3 other shooter bucks yesterday.

Dealfinder it's good to hear of a club letting the young bucks walk. Quality deer management really pays off if you give it a chance. Hopefully others will take notice and do the same.

It really does, the club has been seeing a higher number of quality bucks since it started enforcing the rule. This year in particular the big bucks seem to be very plentiful. It only takes 2 or 3 years of letting the little ones walk before you start to see a big difference in buck quality. Just have to make the decision to stick it out for a few years then its gravy then on. Our club if you shoot a buck who's rack fits inside a 5 gallon bucket then its to small and your charged $50. If you do it again its $100 per buck after the first one. In some cases you can be lined up in a spot where the shooting window is very small and you have seconds to pull the trigger. In that case if its close but still fits in the bucket, a club vote on an accidental kill is done. There has been zero times when someone was fined and honestly thought they should not have been. Works well for us, only about 17 members on a good day.
