This is a .38 Special load, originally intended for my cameralady's use, since she has somewhat delicate hands. Turns out I like shooting it, too, quite a bit.

Bullet: 105gr LSWC "Crayola-tip", Lee 358-105-SWC
Charge: 3.9gr Bullseye powder, or 4.2gr Titegroup powder
Case: Mixed .38 Special
Primer: You name it, I've probably used it (including Wolf/Tulammo)

Load Characteristics:

This is a light gallery load that is very easy to shoot. I've taught people how to shoot using this load, including a friend's 8-year-old son. He handled it easily. My mother, in her 70's, also had no trouble with it and was pleasantly surprised by its ease of handling.

You know the old maxim, "practice with your carry gun"? This load actually makes featherweight carry pieces, such as the S&W J-Frame Airweight, the S&W Bodygoard .38, or the Ruger LCR, actually enjoyable to practice with regularly at the range. I can shoot 100 rounds of this load out of one of those without my hands stinging afterwards. This is Good.

Now let's talk rifles. When .22LR is scarce, like now, shooting this out of a lever-action rifle in .38/357 feels somewhere between .22LR and .22 Magnum. In other words, very light. I consider it the "reloadable .22LR".

The load chronos at 850 feet/sec out of the 4" revolver barrel. I haven't yet chrono'd it out of the leverguns, but it has no trouble whatsoever exiting a 16" barrel, either. I'm guessing it's doing about 900 fps.

If you want to do a lot of inexpensive marksmanship practice, this load has served me *very* well in that capacity.

And yes, the cast "boolit" used here really does look like a Crayola Crayon tip! :-)
