If you live in one city or county when you apply and purchase a class 3, and then afterwards move to another city within Va, do you have to notify the sheriff or anyone else?

My understanding....

No LEO involved, but you will need to send A completed 5320.20 form to the NFA
To reference your address change. If your items are on a trust then this is very important, as the trust "entity" has made a change of location, and is usually amended to reflect the new address, this too requires a notification (in writing) to the brach. Individual -non trust- forms still need a completed 5320.20 sent in.

The NFA branch will send you a copy of the form with signature of acknowledgment. This is what you'll show the new county LEO when he shows up at your house for the calls from the neighbors. He may be a Sherrif that doesn't sign, but you crossed ALL your T's and he'll have to bid you a good day.

There is no legal requirement to notify anybody of an in-state move. NFA branch would "like" notification.

And if he has issue with CLEO in the new county? Why Not cover your 6 by having this documentation available instead of .....what?.......telling the new deputy it wasn't required by NFA. Youll sit in jail if he cant figure it out. Tell me What line 5 of Part 1 says....
https://www.atf.gov/files/forms/download/atf-f-5320-20.pdf

= Example: permanent change of address

I can see the LEO right now on your property cause of machine gun fire, and he's on acute edge if he's green. Oh, let's just add in for giggles that the CLEO of this new county does not sign for this type of constitutional right. So there he is looking through the stamps F4s you hand him, and bam....your drivers license address is not the same address you have on the forms. Your either sitting in the back of the car, or taking a ride until its resolved.

The form helps barney fife connect the dots. Why else would NFA send you a copy of it BACK TO YOU SIGNED? The provision is there for you. Maybe it's not mandatory so that one day NFA and state can hinge a huge case on some guy that played this game with them.

Why rock the boat?

And the title of the form is "Application to Transport Interstate..." Look, I'm just pointing out what the law requires and answering the OP's question. If you want to fill out the form, feel free, I have no problem with that.

Yes... if Machine Guns are involved.

Machine Guns have to be registered in Virginia with the Virginia State Police (Firearms Transaction Center) on a registration application (Form SP-115). A certificate of registration (SP-160), valid as long as the registrant remains the same, shall be issued upon receipt of a completed registration application.

Correct!

The 5320.20 Form applies to Interstate not Intrastate

Are they on a trust, or individual?
