I would like to thank Scythefwd for the advice provided to me. I was able to get my threaded cap off without going to a gunsmith.

When Scy heard that I had acquired a Garand and some ammo but had no clips, he quickly offered to give me one. I met up with him, during a lunch break and left with food and a clip. A truly valuable member of the community.
