I have a plan to use TBD bullets and Win 231 to hand load some subsonic 38 special for my lever action rifle with a silencerco hybrid suppressor. My chonograph is on the way (I shot my last one). I have done 300 BLK before and 9mm, but I was wondering if anyone had advice for me. My main question stems from the hogdon reloading site. The loads for 38 special are listed under pistol. I will just try something in the middle, but I wonder if anyone knows if I definitely need to go high or low with a 16 inch barrel on a rifle. Thanks in advance.

I'm fairly confident almost all .38 loads are already subsonic. Yes, that does assume a pistol length barrel, but if you load up a 158gr SWC loading, I'm pretty confident it will be subsonic even through a 16" barrel.
Highly recommend using plated or jacketed bullets, if running through a suppressor.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I should post some loads and chrono data for 38 special through my rifle/suppressor combo. It might help someone provided I get some decent results. More to follow...when all the equipment arrives.
