Beginner Question - Do you use rifle slings for shooting-clays shotguns?

Recently bought a Remington 1100 for clay shooting & previously rented Benellis (even the clapped out ones were great)... which had no rifle sling. Question: Should I or would I want put a sling on this kind of rifle or would that distract shooting? Without thinking I generally find myself carrying port arms... which doesn't feel natural cause it's like "where's the rifle inspection govna" Thanks Phil
