This Winchester Model 70, s/n 405090, was purchased by me from the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2007. Prior to the CMP it was U.S. Property from approximately 1957. Photos show the last time it was fired was in 2011 with a vintage Lyman Super Targetspot scope (not included or available).

According to the NRA article, The Military Model 70: A Forgotten Sniper Rifle by Bruce N. Canfield, Field Editor, posted on July 31, 2020, “It has been confirmed that the U.S. Army purchased in excess of 200 Model 70 rifles between 1954 and 1959, mainly from [Brig. Gen. George] Van Orden’s firm [Evaluators, Ltd.]. They were intended primarily as match rifles and were not procured for use as sniper rifles.”

Rifle is classified as a curio or relic (C&R) by the ATF Firearms Curios or Relics List, “Winchester, Model 70, bolt-action rifle, all cal.’s, mfd. in or before 1963 having S/Ns less than 581472.”

Also includes 200 rounds of US M2 ball in the original 400 round ammo can, plus 30 rounds of misc. commercial .30-06, Redfield International Match rear peep sight and Redfield Olympic front sight.

Buyer will also receive the original shipping box if you want it, trigger lock, sales receipt and CMP certificate of authenticity.
