So come Jan 1 2026 no more tax stamp? Still happening?
And just a state Police background check, just like for a gun?
Mad rush for suppressors at inflated prices????

Only thing that changes is you don’t pay $200 for the stamp. Everything still goes through the ATF

Virginia State Police does not require a state background check SP-65 for a suppressor, only for shotguns, handguns, frames/receivers and rifles.

The FBI does a federal background check on you which satisfies the ATF Form 4473 box 28:

"No NICS check is required because a background check was completed during the NFA approval process on the individual who will receive the NFA firearm(s), as reflected on the approved NFA application."

For any other item I listed or NFA item, you will be required to fill out an SP-65 alongside the 4473.
