These were made the same time as the 1897 Winchester started, but never had the following that the Winneys had, and even though they're the same age, they're not authorized for the cowboy shooting competitions (even though they looked a whole lot cooler!). The Marlin had a very novel disconnect on the magazine, that allowed you to take the barrel off, making it easy to clean. The right top buttstock has a chip out of it (see photo) and the barrel had been cut to 23" and some sort of glow sight put on it. There is no buttplate (it looks like it wore a recoil sleeve for quite a few years. The LOP is 13 1/2" from trigger to back.I took it completely apart, ran it through an ultrasonic cleaner, oiled and reassembled. It's rock solid and lock tight. $400 includes all the paperwork. I might consider a .357 lever or a Mossberg MVP in trade. I'm in Chantilly near the auto park.
