To start, this was a very weird interaction. And a long read. None of the messaging back and forth showed any sort of alarm.

TLDR-He was adamant for bos and never tried to show an id. Thinks guns should be registered. Mentioned his rights restored. Called a buddy mid sale. Lowballed offer last second. And didn’t have any money with him.

In chat we agreed to meet at bass pro. Price was never discussed. This was at 6pm as well.
Right away he asked if I had paperwork for a bill of sale. I told him no, I don’t need one. I then stood there and waited for him to dig through his truck to find paper to make a bos. Even explaining they aren’t mandatory, so just show me a VA ID, or CHP and we are good. He ignored me.

I showed him the revolver at the same time he kept bringing up the bos. I explained again, I don’t need it, it’s not mandatory, just show me some ID. He wouldn’t. Instead he told it was weird I didn’t want a bos, as if I didn’t want any evidence to the gun. I might have laughed, I can’t remember. I told him, don’t read into it, just not needed. If anything the burden is on me as I had this revolver transferred in my name during the UBC. That’s when he said, wait you didn’t register it in your name? I said, There is no registry.

Around that time he launched into a ramble of a story that by the end of it I just looked at him and said how does that apply here? It made no sense. Here is what I did glean from the ramble-
-His best good friend screwed him over
-He has a deputy buddy
-A rifle was taken away and number ran on it
-Oh, and he just had his rights restored.

Finally after this story and more back forth discussion, I agree to bos he wanted. Name, number, serial number. I said ok, let’s do it.
That’s when he asked how much. I forgot, so went back to my car to check what I put in the ad and tell him.(I sell a lot of stuff) When I turn around he is standing facing into his driver door on the phone. I walked back and stood there waiting for him. After a couple minutes of him not talking to anyone I asked him-What are we doing? He says, I’m trying to call my buddy. I said, ok? He then mumbles he wanted to run the serial number.

I said, you want to run the serial number? He then told me, if you say it’s clean, it’s clean. I probably laughed a little, and told him yes it is. That’s when he asked if I’d take $50 less because he can’t get more from atm. I told him no, the price was what it was long before we were standing here.

And that where I said, see ya later, it’s been a weird one.

Between the twitchy behavior, lack of looking me in the eye, phoning a buddy in the middle of a gun sale in a parking lot at night, the mention of “rights restored”, not wanting to show any ID and not having any money with him, I left.

Maybe he is decent person, I don’t know. That night I got the twitchy, paranoid, chain smoker version. Good luck
