Rifle is complete but trigger spring not working. Brass butt plate. Has been cleaned. Gunsmith might repair it. Should be considered an antique non-firing display piece.
The gun is the Gahendra Martini-Henry. Made in Nepal in the 1880’s when the British government was unable to supply the Nepalese soldiers with the British battle rifle, the Martini-Henry. The rifles were not an exact copy and were different in operation. All rifles were handmade. Sources indicate the total number made was 8,983. By 1908 the Gahendra Martini was considered obsolete. They were covered in yak grease and stored in a Nepalese Palace. More pictures available.
Specifications:
• Caliber: .577/450 Martini–Henry
• Cartridge Type: Centerfire Cartridge
• Barrel Length: 33 Inches, Overall Length: 49 1/2 Inches
• Action type: Lever Action Falling Block, Single Shot
