I am trying to work out a reduced load for 44 mag handgun ... anyone got a good one?

You could just load some 44 special. As for using 44mag, 6gr of Bullseye with 240gr LSWC is a mild load (890fps +/-). Be careful with such a small charge in a large shell case as it is easy to double or triple the charge without noticing.
