IIRC, a couple of different companies imported FN FALs into the USA and built them in the USA over the years. There should be import markings on the gun.

no import marks on this one. It's an all FN gun...not a parts kit build. imported by browning starting in 59. a little over 1,800 were imported like this

Some examples of books that might be helpful are "The FN-FAL Rifle" by Blake Stevens or "The World's Assault Rifles" by Gary Paul Johnston and Thomas B. Nelson.
Alternatively, you could contact FN Herstal, the manufacturer of the FN-FAL, and provide them with the serial number. They may be able to provide you with information about when the rifle was manufactured.
