So I've been really interested in the concept of the Scout Rifle recently. I found the Mossberg Patrol/Scout rifle (ex.
https://www.mossberg.com/mvp-patrol-rifle-27716.html) which offers a bolt-action rifle that takes AR magazines, is threaded, and has fiber-optic iron sights! A lot to love!
However I've heard this rifle is sub-standard compared to other options that take AR mags, like the Ruger American (which seems to have better reviews comparatively - not an RPR by any means of course). But the Ruger American (which is where I'm leaning towards) doesn't have those barrel-mounted iron sights. I really prefer this option because I like them on my lever gun. They save valuable rail space for mounting an optic as far back as possible. And I'd prefer to not use a clamp-on option.
However, I don't know how I would mount such sights without a gunsmith - or even which commercially available options would fit a Ruger American's barrel contour.
Any thoughts?
