Hadn't been to the NRA range in Fairfax in months. Noticed a few changes as I walked up for a range session. The underground parking lot is still closed. Not surprised as the amount of rust on steel column supports and other structures in the garage was epic. I noticed all the signs sporting the days and time the range is open have been removed. I had copies on my phone so here are the old signs: I had a nice range session, shot about 150 rounds of 9mm ball, then about 200 round of .22LR. Felt good to practice. While I was shooting I recognized one of the range officers and said hello. We chatted for a bit and I asked about the full auto notice on the waiver form I had to sign when I paid my range fee. What he said (not verbatim) was " Yeah, we allow full auto on the other range we have [I wasn't aware there were other ranges at the NRA range) and you have to ask the manager about it. Its not during normal hours and you might have to make a reservation. But, just ask him. He's in his office." So when I finished, I went ask the manager in his office. When I entered his office I told him I had just renewed by waiver and saw on the form that there was a section talking about Full Auto (NFA items) (See#7 in the photo below) and wanted to inquire about shooting my NFA firearms. And he told me "No, we don't allow full auto at this range, this is a public range and I just spent a ton of money replacing the backstop. I don't remember seeing that on the waiver but it probably needs to be updated. I chuckled, because I felt like I was the only person that took the time to actually read the waiver, when they handed me their iPad to sign it I started reading it, and the counter staff kinda got flustered I was reading the entire text. So, anyway I politely asked the manager about "the other range" and if reservations were required and before I finished my sentence, some NRA grumpy a-hole employee who was sitting in the chair next to his desk barked out "WE DON'T HAVE ANOTHER RANGE." "Good to know" I said. Thanked the manager for his time and left. I waved to my RSO buddy as I walked out and he gave me a big smile and a thumbs up, which I returned.
